Add colour to your garden with fast bloomers

If you're keen to add colour to your garden without waiting months for results, fast bloomers can be your new best friends.

Our long, hot summers mean plants that establish quickly and flower fast are more likely to thrive. They're ideal for filling bare patches, brightening new garden beds or giving your outdoor space an instant lift.

Cosmos

Cosmos is a go to for fast colour and easy care. They germinate quickly, flower within a couple of months and thrive in full sun. Once established, they're surprisingly drought tolerant, making them a great fit for Perth gardens.

Zinnias

If bold colour is what you're after, zinnias deliver fast. They love warm weather, flower quickly and keep going through summer with minimal effort. Plant them in a sunny spot with good drainage and they'll happily reward you with pinks, reds, oranges and yellows.

Petunias

Petunias are a reliable option for instant impact in pots, hanging baskets or garden beds. A little water and the occasional feed is usually all they need to stay looking good.

Portulaca

Perfect for hot, dry spots, portulaca is a low growing plant that flowers fast and thrives in Perth's summer heat. It's ideal for edging garden beds or filling gaps where other plants might struggle.

Alyssum

For quick colour closer to the ground, alyssum is a great choice. It flowers fast, spreads gently and works beautifully along paths or borders. It prefers the cooler months in Perth and adds soft white, pink or purple tones with minimal care.

Phlox

Annual phlox is a great option for soft, colourful displays that don't take long to appear. It performs well in Perth's spring weather and flowers freely in full sun or light shade. With regular watering during establishment, it will reward you with pinks, whites and purples.

Gaillardia

Often called blanket flower, gaillardia is well suited to Perth conditions and flowers quickly once established. It loves full sun, handles sandy soil and is drought tolerant once settled. The red and yellow blooms bring strong colour and last for months with very little attention.

Sunflowers

Dwarf sunflower varieties are perfect for fast results in Perth gardens. They germinate quickly and can flower in as little as eight weeks. They're ideal for sunny spots, kids' gardens or pots, and are easy to remove once they finish flowering.

Brachyscome

Another Australian native that performs beautifully. Brachyscome flowers quickly and keeps going for months. It suits garden borders, pots and rockeries and prefers a sunny position with good drainage. The daisy like flowers add colour without needing constant care.

Livingstone daisy

Livingstone daisy is a fast-growing ground cover. It flowers quickly with bright pink, purple or yellow blooms and works well in garden beds, pots or along edges. It prefers well drained soil and minimal watering once established.

Quick tips
