- Avoid parking under trees – bird droppings, tree sap, leaves and nuts will dirty your car and can even damage the paintwork.
- If you can’t avoid under-tree parking and your car becomes target practice for the birds, clean off the mess as soon as you can. Keep an on-the-go cleaning kit in your car for situations like this.
- Avoid automatic car washes. They are quick and convenient but use brushes which can accumulate dirt and grit - and they’re not exactly gentle.
- Always park your car in your garage (if you have one) at night.
- Wash your car once a week to keep it under control. It doesn’t have to turn into a major, time-consuming event and it will be much easier to keep clean.
- Wash your car with a soft microfibre cloth to protect your paintwork rather than grabbing any old rag.
- Be careful when parking. Don’t park too close to other cars – or you could end up with dings in your shiny paintwork.
- If you accidentally drip some petrol onto your paintwork while filling up, make sure you rinse the area with water as soon as possible, or it can stain and cause damage.
- When out and about always park under cover if you can – especially in summer. This will protect your car from intense UV rays which can cause the paintwork to fade.
