Your lawnmower blades should be sharpened after approximately 25 hours of use. This means that if it takes you about half an hour a week to mow your lawn, you should be having your blades sharpened once a year.
Mower blade sharpening should be part of your lawn maintenance plan. Blunt blades can shred your grass, causing frayed tips and discolouration.
Sharper blades on your mower means:
- Faster mowing because of less resistance from the blades
- Your grass is healthier with a neat cut, making it able to cope with disease
- Straight cut edges will retain moisture
- Lawns that are properly mowed will look lush, thick and have deeper roots.
